Woodhouse’s Bevin Court has secured £129,454 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for a major new heritage and community engagement project exploring the site’s hidden links to the Bevin Boys during the Second World War.
The project will uncover and share the little-known story of the site, which served as a training camp for young men conscripted to work in Britain’s coal mines during wartime.
Alongside historical research and oral history collection, the programme will include exhibitions, interpretation panels, creative engagement, environmental improvements and volunteering opportunities running through to 2028.
St Anne’s Community Services, which has operated Bevin Court for the past 25 years, will use the project to strengthen links between heritage, wellbeing and community participation.
Neil Anderson Media supported the communications surrounding the funding announcement and wider project launch.
David Peers, Manager at St Anne’s, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, we can finally uncover and share the remarkable story of Bevin Court while creating a space that benefits both our residents and the wider community.”
